Short answer...yes. Long answer...everything is encrypted in transit over TLS and chat is encrypted at rest. Video isn't recorded or stored anywhere, we are an SFU that simply forwards along video to other users in the Rume.

Rume is about seeing the people you care about. You need a webcam in order to join Rume but you can turn off your video if you'd like.
Kind of. It is possible to join a Rume from your mobile device but it's not recommended. Rume works best on desktop via the Chrome browser.

Yes, Rume allows multiple users to share their screens at the same time. All users' shared screens will show up on the right hand side of your screen. Simply click on one of the shared screens to enlarge your view.
On stage, everyone can hear you, but you can only hear the others on stage. Use it to make an announcement, host a trivia night, or teach a cooking class.
Rume conversations allow you to have multiple conversations in one space. Just click on someones face to pull them aside and start talking. Only people in your conversation can hear you, but you can still see the whole group.
No, users must decide which conversations they want to join on their own (just like in person!).
If you would like to lock your conversation, click the lock button on the bottom left of your screen. Once clicked, no new people can join.
